Rube Goldberg Machine

For the last two weeks in a course called Blast Off we have been making our own Rube Goldberg machines. Rube Goldberg was a cartoon designer who drew 15,000 cartoons in his life. his hobby however was making complex machines that do simple tasks.
Here are some questions about how we made our machine (Squid is my buddie for this task):

  • How did it feel to work with your teammates?

It felt more fun getting to work with people that we got to pick ourselves. I think that me and my group member work well together because we are quicker without another group member that does nothing.

  • What roles did each group member play?

I did most of the designing and squid did a lot of the constructing. Squid was the camera man and I pushed the car to start.

  • What do you feel successful about?

I felt successful about that we only had to try our machine 2 times and the second time it went perfectly. The car didn't go to fast and knock over all the dominoes without hitting the ping pong ball.

Our video is here:

The Block Run

This week in Te Whare Hauora we did a practice of the Block Run. I am proud of this because my time was 14:37 and that is a pretty good time.

Yesterday I went to the Hospital to get my foot scanned and we nearly got locked in. But then we found out that only the top of the door was locked so we got out. It was still really creepy.

Pihitia Station Visit

Just 2 days ago we went down to Pihitia Station. Tristin's dad works at Pihitia Station. It was a whole school trip, but because of corona virus the moana syndicite went down there first. We took the bus and it took about half an hour to arive. When we did finaly arive the people (including Tristin's dad) where wating there. While we where wating we saw Evan (he is a butcher) get a sheep out of the freezer. The sheep was already dead and Toby (Tristin's dad) said he killed the sheep a week ago.

Altogether there were 7 station's to see. First our class got halved into two groups. The first stop for my group was the weighing and the farm dog's. First we had to get the sheeps into the passege way wich was quite easy. Then the sheep would get shoved into the cage and if they were heavy enough they would keep going and if they were not heavy enough they would go into a diffrent padock.

The last stop that we went to was the milking. We didn't go into the milking shed and I don't even know if there is one. At the milking stop each group got a glass with cream in it. We had to shake the glass and then it would become cream. After that it would become butter. The person there said that only one group before has maneged to make butter.

Pie and Doughnut Day!

Pie and doughnut are delicious so it was no surprise that I was super excited but

that’s not all today we were allowed to wear pyjamas! Because it was pyjama day

everyone who wore a pyjama had to bring a gold coin donation. Angus counted

the donations and all together we had $310.

The gold coin donations were for year six camp which got delayed because of

coronavirus. If coronavirus wasn’t there I wouldn’t get to go on camp because I

was sick in the week when camp should have been.

Maths Whizz!

In my syndicate the teachers introduced a new maths program . The maths program is called (you Might know it from the title) Maths Whizz! When you start with the program you automatically have to do an assesment test. Then Whizzy the robot puts you in the level that you are. If you complete two activitys then you get a jem (YAY). Each week you have to do 119 minutes.

Once you have done the 102 minutes then you can only do topic challenges. Topic challenges means, when some body completes a task in record time, then the person can challenge you to beat their time. I myself have been invited to 3 challenges and won two of them. Here is a photo of Maths Whizz:

On this photo you can see that I have already done my 102 minutes on Maths Whizz so I can only do topic challenges. I like the new program and have fun doing it.
